Duck Boots and Duck Boats

Duck boots have long been considered a staple of New England fall fashion. One other staple of New England? Duck Boats.

Partnering with the team at Boston Duck Tours, our crew set out to style our men’s and women’s duck boots on a duck boat tour around the city streets of Boston and through the “dirty water” of the Charles River.

Scroll below to see photos from our duck tour and to learn more about the history behind the duck boats and Sperry’s duck boots.

Setting off from atop the Charles River Dam, the Sperry crew climbed aboard “Waterfront Wanda” – one of the more than 28 duck boats that are in operation by Boston Duck Tours.

The duck boats used today by Boston Duck Tours are designed to mirror the styling of the early DUCW military vehicles that were used in World War II. Sharing in this history, some of our earliest boot and boat shoe models were designed for use in the U.S. Navy.

Today, the DUCW replicas are largely used for land and water tours. A duck tour seemed like the perfect opportunity for us to use our duck boots on land and at sea, so we called up Boston Duck Tours to set a date for a group tour.

Pairing a fun tour with education and a do-good purpose, the crew at Boston Duck Tours creates a fun field trip experience for tourists, students, and adults alike.

As the DUCW floated along the Charles River, riders can catch a perfect view of the Prudential Building, The Hancock, or the Longfellow Bridge on a clear, sunny day.

In addition to being home of one of the largest fleets of duck boats, Boston is also home to the family of ducklings depicted in Robert McCloskey’s children’s book Make Way for Ducklings. Stopping at the Boston Public Gardens during our tour, we captured a few photos of our kids’ duck boots with the iconic bronze duckling statues.

Autumn in Boston is the perfect time for duck boots. With leaves on the ground and scattered rainy days, our duck boots proved to be the perfect accessory to pair with jeans, a flannel, and a warm vest.

Fall in Boston is a magical time of year, and our team was so thankful to have the chance to enjoy a perfect autumn day aboard the duck boats with Boston Duck Tours.
